Boo! Did I get you? Were you startled? If the love of being frightened is your thing and you reside in the US, then this article was specifically written for you. If you fall under one or none of the above categories, don’t feel left out, this article was also written for you. In fact, this article was written for everyone in the world. A visit to one of the creepiest and most frightening places in the US is guaranteed to be a fun and unforgettable experience.

Listed in no particular order, below is 5 very creepy and frightening places to visit in the US:

  1. The Winchester Mystery House, California:

Taking an unfinished farm house and turning it into a 7 storey building after being advised to do so by someone, the late Sarah Winchester was the reason behind the existence of this ‘haunted house’.

It was said that she lost her baby daughter prior to losing her husband 15 years later. She was told her family had been cursed and needed to build an enormous house to keep the spirits at bay. She was also told that she was going to stay alive as long she never stopped building and thus the monster was born.

Over the years, bizarre things were reported to have been witnessed in the house that has staircases which lead to solid ceiling, outrageously lengthy hallways, and other creepy features. These bizarre happenings are reported to have continued even after almost 100 years after her death.

  1. The Mütter Museum, Pennsylvania

Located in the College of Physicians of Philadelphia, the Mütter Museum houses lots of human specimens brilliantly preserved in glass cabinets, jars, and on racks. The museum also contains some medical tools that are more like devices used for torture. As you tour around the two floors that makes up the Mütter Museum, asides from the tons of other scary and disturbing things you would see, you will see a corpse known as the “Soap Lady.” Why do they call her that? Why don’t you go find out yourself!

  1. The Villisca Ax Murder House, Iowa

Long ago, a family of six known as the Moore family along with their 2 houseguests were beaten to death. Investigators came, did their thing and concluded that the tragic event must have taken place between the hours 12am and 5am. Numerous suspects were investigated and tried but the case remained unsolved.

These days, you can go on a ghost tour at the house and if you think you can handle it, request for an overnight stay.

  1. Bachelor’s Grove Cemetery, Illinois

The Bachelor’s Grove Cemetery is an abandoned and relatively small cemetery of just eighty-two plots. During the 1950s and 1970s, people started noticing some bizarre things. There were reported sightings of a ghost farmhouse, ghosts dressed as monks, a black dog, a 2 headed ghost, a woman in white, etc.

Feel free to go visiting at this cemetery and you just might be lucky enough to encounter a ghost.

  1. The Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum, West Virginia

Last on the list is the hospital for mentally ill patients that ran for a long time before it eventually ceased operations in 1994.

It was said that the hospital became overcrowded and people later started seeing bizarre sights, hearing strange voices, etc. due to these happenings and the sufferings experienced by the patients, the facility was believed to be haunted.

These days however, the building hosts ghost tours which run overnight at $100 a tour.

Well, there you have it, be a sport, grab your bags and your companion and go visit one or two or even all of these sites!
